LynxHarbor — the gaming lounge

Off the main lobby, past The Beacon Lounge, there is a set of double doors. Behind them is our casino hall: one room, softly lit, with a handful of gaming tables and a bank of electronic gaming machines along the far wall. It is not a large space and it was never meant to be — it is somewhere to spend an hour or two after dinner, not the reason to book the hotel.

Our staff are used to first-time visitors. If you have never sat at a table before, say so and someone will walk you through it without any fuss.

A room, not a floor

Two tables and a short row of machines, under lamps low enough that you can still hear the person next to you. There is no clatter, no signage, nothing flashing at you from across a hall — the room seats a few dozen people at most.

Our dealers work the floor at a conversational pace. Minimum stakes are posted at each table, staff will explain any game to a first-time visitor, and nobody minds if you sit down purely to watch.

What is in the room

Gaming tables and electronic gaming machines, a small bar, and seating for guests who would rather just watch. Minimum stakes are posted at each table.

Opening hours

Evenings only, from 6:00 PM. The hall closes at 1:00 AM Sunday to Thursday, and at 2:00 AM on Friday and Saturday.

Getting in

Entry is free and open to hotel guests and visitors aged 20 and over. Our team may ask for photo ID at the door. Smart casual dress, please.

Playing responsibly

We are a Host Responsibility venue. Our staff are trained to notice when an evening stops being enjoyable, and they will step in — that is part of the job, not an intrusion. Guests aged under 20 cannot enter the hall, and we will always ask if we are unsure.

If gambling is causing harm to you or someone close to you, help is free and confidential: the NZ Gambling Helpline on 0800 654 655, available 24/7.

Read our Host Responsibility commitments.

The rest of your evening

Most guests who visit the hall do so for an hour and then go elsewhere — which is exactly how we like it. The Wharfside Kitchen serves until late, The Beacon Lounge has live piano on Fridays, and the spa is open until 9:00 PM.
